About Pyrite Crystal / Stone

Pyrite, also called iron pyrite or fools gold rock, is a natural mineral made of iron and sulfur (FeS₂). Its most common sulfide mineral found on earth. Pyrite has a shiny, metallic look and yellow brass color, which is why many people mistake it for real gold.

The name "pyrite" comes from greek word that means “fire stone” because it can create sparks when hit against metal. Long ago even Romans used it this way.

Pyrite crystal forms in many types of rocks like quartz veins, coal beds, and fossils, and is found all over the world. Even though it’s called fool’s gold, real gold is sometimes found with pyrite, hidden inside it in tiny amounts.
