Iolite

Iolite, also known as Cordierite or Water Sapphire, is a beautiful gemstone found in Brazil, Madagascar, Burma and India. It was first identified in 1807 by A.G. Werner. Its name comes from a Greek word meaning “violet” inspired by stones rich purplish blue color. According to old stories, Vikings used thin pieces of iolite to reduce glare and help them find the suns position while navigating.
